Uncertainty for Kansas Wheat After Freezes and Drought
Kansas wheat harvest nears with estimates ranging from 141 to 214 million bushels, below the 250 million average. Official April 1 tally was 197 million. Flooding rains may mend some damage, but drought, freezes on April 22 24 and May 12, and uneven growth cast doubt on yield across counties including Sumner, Reno, and Harper. Farmers report wide variation and early cutting could begin by Memorial Day.
