James Sutherland Hibbard, 20, of 2135 Me. St., was charged Thursday afternoon in County Court with disturbing the peace. Sheriff Billy Hodson said Hibbard admitted offering rides to grade school girls near Bismarck School east of North Lawrence. He, a Kansas University freshman, was released Friday on $1,000 bond. Midland McLouth Road Stretch Set for May Work
The state awarded an $83,000 contract to N R Harm Contractor Inc of Perry to resurface 10.35 miles from the Douglas County line north of Midland to MacLouth linking to Highway K116. The road will use a 3 inch rock base with blacktop and resemble local parking lots. Construction expected to finish soon.

Richard J. Finnegan, 70, longtime Chicago newspaper figure, died last night. He rose from newsboy to editor and publisher, began his career at the century’s start, served as consulting editor of the Chicago Times before the 1948 merger that formed the Sun Times, then led as editor and executive vice president until 1950, and later as consulting editor. He also led the City News Bureau as president from 1939 to 1951.

Escapee Captured After Walk Along Highway 50N
A 49 year old escapee from Osa watomie State Hospital was returned there Friday after Douglas County Sheriff's Office apprehended the man Thursday night while he was walking along U S Highway 50N near Baldwin. The escapee identified himself as Moses Claybourne of Kansas City Kansas. Hospital authorities said he had walked away from the institution three days earlier.
