King Edward VII Dies After Short Illness in London

King Edward VII died at 1:15 a.m. in London, ending a reign of nine years and prompting immediate accession of the Prince of Wales as George V. The mourning king, died with family present, after an illness of less than a week. The bulletin listed Queen Alexandra and royal family present, with surgeons’ statements pending. George V’s first act was to inform the Lord Mayor by telegram.

Life of Saint Paul Lecture At Local Church

The First M. E. Church Sunday School students finish a winter study on the life of the apostle Paul. Dr. Wolfe will deliver an illustrated address tomorrow night with stereopticon views of Paul’s travels. The sermon will follow in the Sunday night service.

Ballinger Hearing Sparks Morning Contempt Row

Washington May 7 The Ballinger Brandeis cross examination yielded another sensational moment as Horace T Jones special agent of the lard office proclaimed he did not believe Ballinger's statement and urged a witness to confirm or deny it causing a furor in the committee room. The incident followed by the senate privileges and elections committee voting to report the campaign publicity bill with an amendment constraining publication in advance of elections.

Supreme Court Sets June Trial Dates and Costs Ruling

Topeka May 7 The state supreme court ruled it has jurisdiction in the Lest the state bank guaranty law suit and fixed June for trial arguments. A separate item notes that when a jointist is pardoned the county must pay costs. Also reported is Leavenworth county judges not ousting commissioners and New Jersey Governor Fort declining a writ of requisition in beef trust cases. Hyde Trial Near End Of Defense Direct Testimony

In Kansas City Missouri on May court adjourned time tonight with defense poised to finish its direct testimony in the Hyde trial. Dr and Mrs Hyde expected to be last witnesses for the defense as deposition testimony from Mrs Colin M Cleary was read. Cleary ill but testified that Hyde and his wife dined at their residence on November 71st amid fever outbreaks reported by Swope family members.

Railroad Trouble From Heavy Rains in Missouri

Heavy rains caused three days of floods in Central Missouri washing out culverts and rails. The Missouri Kansas and Texas detours the St Louis division over the Missouri Music via Sedalia. Lawrence Couple United in Simple Home Wedding

Son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Co. Anderson and Mr Homer H. Hill wed at the bride’s home 1540 Massachusetts street in a simple sacred ceremony in the parlor. Mrs Lidl, a popular Lawrence young woman, is noted for sweetness and capability. Mr Hill oversees the printing department at Haskell Institute and is regarded as a trustworthy employee. Brooks Attempts Suicide Before Return to Prison

Dillg Brooks, recently on parole, nearly cut his throat to avoid returning to the penitentiary. Parole Officer Higgins restrained him just as Brooks drew a knife, a doctor treated a deep throat wound, and Brooks will be sent back to prison once recovered. Also, Miss Nelle Hudson remains seriously ill after an appendicitis operation at Pearson's hospital.
