Clinton urges troops to persist in Balkans war stance
At Spangdahlem Air Base Clinton urged U S troops to continue fighting Milosevic’s ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. He cited 1.5 million displaced ethnic Albanians, mass executions, and seized cultural heritage, as NATO media briefings report growing pressure on Belgrade and rising confidence in airstrikes.

Public support slips for NATO air campaign over Kosovo
Six weeks into NATO’s air war over Yugoslavia public support is eroding as Clinton bears political costs for bombing and Kosovo ethnic Albanian evacuations. While overall NATO backing remains, opinions increasingly oppose ground troops for Syria and favor Congress over the White House in any troop decision. A Newsweek poll of 751 people on April 29-30 shows approval of Clinton’s Kosovo handling dropping from 56 to 46 percent by month’s end.
