In Newport Kentucky James Hambry 59 of Cincinnati stripped to shorts in a do it yourself laundry. Acting Police Court Judge Conrad G Matz fined him ten dollars and costs for the incident, noting the difference with women customers wearing shorts.
Dr Edward Teller testified before the Senate Commerce Committee praising Lewis L Strauss as a long time champion of science and friend to scientists. He contrasted his view with harsh criticisms from David Inglis and David Hill who urged Strauss removal from government. Anderson denounced Strauss for taking undue credit for the hydrogen bomb and noted past clashes during their respective chairmanships.
Kansas University plans a full day of events with law students excused from classes to attend Law School Day. Activities include SBA president candidates, Miss Res Ipsa Loquitur competition, a farm picnic, and an Eldridge Hotel dance, with senior picnics and other spring events for graduates.
U.S. labor leader Walter Reuther spurned an invitation from Louis Saillant to attend a World Federation of Trade Unions congress in Goerlitz May 8-10. He called the WFTU a tool for Soviet policy and said the move was propaganda to minimize West Berlin's May Day rally during his West Germany tour.

Lawrence High School sophomore Robert Shenk received honorable mention from the State Geological Survey for his report From Iron Ore to the Automobile in the annual state competition for a summer scholarship. David R. Evans of Pittsburg won the scholarship with Shenk also honored.
President Eisenhower arranged a helicopter trip with Sir Winston Churchill to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Farm in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. The White House said they would travel 80 miles to view the property and return the same afternoon.
Dr. Walter E. Sandelius of Kansas University political science will deliver the 18th annual Daniel Lecture at Oklahoma University Thursday evening.

A 19-year-old Black Florida A&M coed testifies before an all male Leon County grand jury about being seized at gunpoint and raped by four Tallahassee men after a college dance. The victim, sedated at University Hospital, is supported by family as deputies report the courtroom incident with a photographer charged for defiance of rules.
Know Your Bank Week is under way at Lawrence High School in its eighth year. Warren Rhodes of First National Bank John Peters of Lawrence National Bank and Harold Schever of Douglas County State Bank spoke to the American Government class. Students will visit local banks today and Thursday.
Richard Barnes a Seneca junior and KU student and president of next year's senior class was reported improving at Seneca Hospital after a Sunday morning auto accident. He regained consciousness and recognized family as officials noted definite improvement since Tuesday with injuries including facial cuts a brain concussion and a nasal fracture.
A State Department spokesman said there is no serious consideration of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev visiting the United States. The remark comes amid ongoing questions about exchanges and potential high level talks between the two powers.

Wilbur Pine of 1023 Highland Drive a lifelong Lawrence resident and grocer for 36 years is named the new Watkins Farm and Home dealer for Wakarusa and Lecompton townships. Pine and his brother Ralph started in groceries in 1920 and remained with the prior store until January this year after its sale to Charles Goble.
In the Courts Dayton Wilks listings show Linford Cain jailed 90 days for bogus checks and 90 days for DUI with fines. Janellie Richard paroled after disturbing the peace. Police Court entries include Keith Kriesel and Frank Muzzy drunk fines, James Tuttle and Jesse Mathews drunk with days, and traffic violations for James Laidlaw stop sign and Walter Rieke improper passing.
Three Lawrence students at Kansas University have articles in the latest Quill issue. Paula Cross and Bob Cross, both seniors of Stouffer Place, authored short stories. Wilhelmina Laird Schoener, a graduate student of 1218 Tenn. St., wrote Fing ers. Karla Rugh, junior of 941 Mo. St., serves as associate editor for the publication.
Congressional observer Rep. Alvin M. Bentley reports the Soviet Union does not want war over Berlin but is prepared to go to the brink. He notes Allied presence in West Berlin strengthens the West and remains the Soviets’ biggest European headache. Bentley sent a preliminary Berlin assessment to the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Two gunmen abducted Bank of America manager Frank Collela and his wife from their home in Ontario California and forced them to the bank at 4th and Mountain before opening. They looted the bank of an estimated 60,000 to 70,000 dollars and fled. The couple was unharmed.
