Kansas City May 6 Kenneth A Spencer head of Pittsburg and Mile Coal Mining predicts a showdown this week on the national coal strike after fruitless talks with the United Mine Workers in Washington. Spencer, a member of a 33 man national negotiating committee, said miners policy committee will meet in Washington tomorrow and unless mines are opened drastic action is likely. He said he agrees with President Truman that the situation is a national catastrophe.
