Taxes and spending press Oklahoma and Kansas towns
Governor Murray vetoes a tax moratorium bill, warning that government cannot function without tax payments. The Fort Scott Tribune notes Kansas taxing bodies move to cash basis, stressing valuation, levies, and penalties. Concerns arise that loosened penalties may cause nonpayment and erode the pay-as-you-go system. Coffeyville’s Hugh J. Powell reports improving eastern conditions, easing western worry as the east recovers and the west gains confidence.
