Alette, a 32 year old psychologist with cerebral palsy, and Bob, 52, a cancer survivor, pursued the child despite agencies doubting them. The case prompted a wider pursuit leading to Mays’s arrest and a later real adoption by another expectant mother inspired by the Temples’ resolve.
