Prime tomato time and methods for planting
May brings peak planting for the summer garden as gardeners prepare tomato beds. The article explains soil moisture rules, the harm of wet tilling, and a recommended planting approach that widens and deepens holes, waters twice, and angles stems to maximize roots. It also notes choosing greenhouse stock like Carmello and Dona, plus sharing six-cell packs with friends. Gwyn Mellinger, journalism teacher at Baker University, signs off.
