House Group Approves Longer Doctor Draft Extension
The House Armed Services Committee voted 27 to 3 for a two year extension on the draft for doctors and dentists, extending active duty liability to ages 41 and delaying expiration from June 30 to July 7, 194?. A peacetime provision would let the federal government subsidize some medical and dental students who commit to active duty. The note also recalls the 1862 homestead law granting land titles to residents meeting conditions.
