Emma McPheeters aged 67 of 1515 Tenn St who led the housing office at the Chamber of Commerce since World War II died after a weeklong illness at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Missouri hay blaze stirs student jeers at campus fire
In Columbia Missouri a Friday night fire destroyed 200 bales of hay at the University of Missouri. Firefighters reported losses of two smoke masks a helmet and a fire axe with a truck tire valve tampered with. Hundreds of students gathered jeering the effort while officials said there was no sign of arson. Fireman Jerry Wells intervened to stop the tampering.

Coroners Jury Rules Poisoning Caused Child Death
A six man Johnson County coroner's jury ruled that two year old Robert Louis Mays of Sunflower Village died from poisoning in an accidental case. The child died Monday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after bread with rat poison was suspected. The inquest took place in Lawrence County Court. No charges will be filed and no further investigation will occur unless new evidence arises.
