Judge Pine Rules Against Seizure in Steel Row Case
Assistant Attorney General Baldridge sparked controversy by arguing the president’s executive powers are constitutionally restrained in the steel seizure dispute. He urged Judge David Pine to uphold Truman’s actions as within the constitution, while later stating the government now argues the president may act in grave emergencies but must stay within constitutional bounds.

Silent in Munsan as truce talks pause
In Munsan Korea the truce talks halted for a day as the United Nations Command awaited a Communist response to an Allied armistice proposal. The plan bundles POW exchanges, air-field rebuilding rights, and Russia’s role as truce supervisor, with a possible North Korea air-field rebuild under a wartime pause. The Reds were not expected to move until decisions from Peiping, Pyongyang, and perhaps Moscow are settled. The Chicago Sun Times reports the Allies would back air-field rebuilding in North Korea during a truce if the Communists accept returning three of five POWs.
