Mission union conference recalls Alaska mission history
Kohlstedt of Philadelphia and trustees of the Metlakata mission attend the uniting conference. Dr. Myers, longtime Alaskan resident, recounts William Duncan who founded the mission in 1852. Duncan built a salmon cannery and sawmill and taught local Indians to work there. The government now runs a school and the mission continues the religious education.
