City Mulls Boardwalk Plans Near Downtown
Lawrence city commissioners consider rezoning to extend downtown boundaries for a boardwalk style riverfront development near Johnny's Tavern. The plan, mixed use with up to 300 apartments, could include a grocery or movie theater, but concerns about a big box store near downtown loom large. Mayor Schumm supports riverfront development while preferring a 25,000 square foot limit unless a specific user requests more.
