Motorcycle crash leaves rider in hospital in Lawrence

Brian H. Keasling, 39, of Lawrence, was listed in good condition at University of Kansas Hospital after a Friday motorcycle wreck in which he was thrown from the bike and struck a mailbox. Fire units responded to a tanker leak and a vapor incident, with no further injuries reported.

Man pleads no contest in beating of homeless man

Defendent Ivan Prentup agrees to a no contest plea to one count of simple robbery after admitting to the near fatal assault on 57 year old Alan Cannon outside the Lawrence Open Shelter. He faced a 59 month minimum but now could receive about 32 months. Cannon, beaten and hospitalized five days, testified he was attacked after a dispute over shelter access. Prentup remains jailed and is set for sentencing April 23.

Power outage after collision at Haskell and La Salle

A car hit a bus shelter and utility pole Tuesday night near Haskell Avenue and La Salle Street, cutting power to about 900 Westar customers.
