NBC signs Jay Leno for more Tonight Show tenure

NBC renewed Jay Leno as Tonight Show host through 2009 in a five-year deal reportedly worth about 100 million dollars. Leno, dominant in late night ratings since 1992, averaged 6.2 million viewers per night this season while rival David Letterman drew 4.4 million.

Alistair Cooke Dies at 95 Former BBC Commentator

Alistair Cooke, the British born journalist who hosted Masterpiece Theatre from 1971 to 1992 and delivered the famed Letter from America radio essays, has died at his New York home at 95. He joined the BBC in 1934 and retired recently citing health concerns. Survivors include his wife, son John, daughter Susan, and two stepchildren.
