Man to stand trial in June on multiple charges
A 34 year old Lawrence man, JD Turner, pleads not guilty to attempted first degree murder and other counts in a Douglas County District Court hearing. He is jailed on a 350000 dollar bond with a June 23 trial date set by Judge Michael Malone. The case relates to an early morning February 14 shooting at Lt Dad Perry Park that left Anthony Wisdom with nine gunshot wounds. Wisdom testified he ran for cover and called 911 after Turner drove away. Wadkins, Turner's live in girlfriend and Wisdom's longtime friend, testified Turner had earlier assaulted Wadkins and demanded Wisdom meet Turner in the park. A May 30 motion hearing was scheduled before the jury trial.

Legislative Post Audit 2013 report projected a statewide revenue loss of 170 million to 500 million if the measure passed. After negotiations Rep John Edmonds helped craft a compromise to codify how counties classify property and set preapproval processes for new projects with tax abatements. Concerns remain over a House amendment granting personal property exemptions to cement plants, potentially paving the way for more requests. Douglas County officials questioned local fiscal impact.
