Army doctors found moderate inflammation or pneumonitis at the base of General Douglas MacArthur's right lung and started antibiotics. The 84 year old, operated on March 6 for gallbladder removal with later complications, remains in serious condition and is improving from a critical state. Explosion Rips Ship Apart Off Virginia Coast
An explosion split the American tanker San Jacinto off the Virginia coast at 12:45 a.m. One crew member died and the vessel broke in two while 36 of 39 crew members remained aboard the stern. The captain Harold J. Titus 40 of Pine City New York radioed that survivors were well. Two men transferred to the tanker Mobile Pegasus with ship papers. one steward M Dotilla died apparently of natural causes. Coast Guard reported Mobile Pegasus released and on its way. Two tugs moved the sections to tow. Vessel en route from Portland Maine to Houston Texas in ballast expelling fumes.

Freak Trailer Accident Injures Two on West 23rd Street
Two people received minor injuries when a runaway trailer broke loose in the 900 block of West 23rd Street at about 4 30 p m. Donald G Hunter 19 of Skyline Trailer Court and passenger Joseph Kieltyka 22 of 2408 Ohio suffered cuts and bruises and were treated and released. Trailer operator Jack O Beatty 38 of De Soto unloaded the trailer and was returning it to a rental firm. Damage totaled 1100. Witnesses noted the trailer whipped and bounced before breaking loose.

Dick Harp achieved NCAA finals appearances as player and coach at Kansas. He helped KU reach the 1940 title game, assisted in 1952 and 1953 crowns, and led the 1957 team to the finals with Wilt Chamberlain.
