Survey finds women trail men in salaries
A Census Bureau survey released during Women's History Month shows women 15 and older who work full time in 2001 were less likely to reach high salary brackets and more likely to live in poverty. About 6 percent of women earned at least 75,000 annually versus 16 percent of men. 12 percent of women earned 50,000 to 75,000 compared with 20 percent of men. poverty among women 65 and older stood at 12 percent, vs 7 percent for men. The March 2002 survey notes disparities despite a separate report finding record earnings for women with college degrees.
