County to hold town hall on jail expansion financing
Douglas County officials plan a public town hall Monday to discuss jail expansion and financing. Commissioner Mike Gaughan cites two options: a countywide sales tax vote or using the public building commission. He notes House Bill 2296 could ease petitioning to place issues on ballots, but says the process will be extremely public regardless. The Sheriff's Department organized the meeting to examine the jail’s role in criminal justice and effects on other services. The session runs 6 to 7 30 p.m. at the county commission chambers, 1100 Massachusetts St.
