Wal Mart tops Fortune 500 list in 2003 ranking
New York City based Wal Mart Stores Inc led Fortune 500 for a third straight year with sales near 259 billion dollars. Exxon Mobil rose to No 2 with 213 billion in revenue, overtaking General Motors, while GM and Ford followed at Nos 3 and 4 and General Electric remained No 5 with 134 billion.

Paris regional vote punishes conservatives in first round
Voters punished France's governing conservatives in the first round of regional elections, giving the leftist opposition about 40 percent and boosting the far right. Exit polls put President Jacques Chirac's party at 34 percent and the extreme right at around 17 percent as expectations grew that Chirac’s government would be punished for economic and social woes.
