Lawrence debates education bill package with local aid shifts
Lawmakers delay start as they finish drafting initial bills. The package adds 104 million in equalization aid to lower wealth districts and allows shifting 25 million from general funds to aid capital outlay districts. Lawrence would gain about 1 million in LOB aid but lose tax levy authority. The measure also broadens exemptions for districts, creates a nine member efficiency commission, loosens teaching licensure, expands charter schools, and adds a corporate scholarship tax credit.
