Wichita fine-free libraries aim to boost access for all
Kansas libraries move to end overdue fines aiming to boost usage among low income residents. Wichita Public Library leadership notes 44,000 residents owe more than ten dollars, with fines disproportionately affecting families and students. If fines end, two-week grace periods would replace penalties while lost items would still incur replacement fees.
