Statehouse rally protests GOP run government in Topeka
Dozens marched to the Kansas Statehouse on Saturday to oppose budget cuts and GOP policies led by Gov. Sam Brownback. The protest focused on immigration abortion rights and discrimination protections for gays and lesbians. Groups included NAACP, NOW, ACLU, League of Women Voters, and Kansas Equality Coalition. About 150 people walked from the Brown v. Board site to the Statehouse steps, chanting democracy slogans as rain fell. Organizers oppose a plan Brownback dropped to move the Kansas Human Rights Commission under the attorney general, and criticize base school funding cuts and Republican leadership.
