Fines levied in Justice Court for delinquent license tags
State patrols swept Douglas county to enforce 1935 license tags with no warnings. Nineteen defendants appeared before Justice Frank Dodds and paid a minimum $1 fine plus $7.50 costs. Fines could reach $500 with up to six months in jail. Delinquents were required to buy tags at the county treasurer and pay a $1 penalty for two months delinquent. Over 50 tag sets were sold within hours, far above the usual daily total. The patrol, led by Victor H. Anderson and including ex-sheriff R. R. Kansas Relief Projects Are Ready for the Cash
The Kansas planning board and the state PWA office submitted a list of 3,494 potential relief projects to federal authorities totaling 332 million dollars. Of that total, 70 million would fund highway improvements, 44 million county systems, and 11 million local streets. School officials issued the order shortly before 2 o clock and pupils were instructed to go home immediately. Teachers assisted by taking older pupils to ensure younger students reached home safely. Streamliner Hits Car Injuring Two In Bonner Springs
Two Bonner Springs men Wayne Clark age 20 and Thornton Tomlin age 21 were seriously injured when their car was struck by the Union Pacific Streamliner at a grade crossing near Lenape. Clark suffered a fractured skull and is in critical condition while Tomlin has a brain concussion and lacerations but is expected to recover. Witness W. W. Haines reported Clark failed to see the approaching train as an eastbound Rock Island train passed. The Streamliner slowed after impact for quick stop. both men were taken to Memorial hospital in Lawrence.
