KU cancer center bill faces turf fight and stem cell clash
Kansas University seeks a 5 million annual appropriation for a world class cancer center but faces resistance over House Bill 2988. Dr. Roy Jensen warns provisions would derail NCI status and add costly cord blood bank requirements while opponents cite embryo stem cell concerns. The budget committee took no action and will reconvene to shape the bill.
