Secretary of State Acheson pledged limited military financial and technical aid to Asia's non communist nations in their fight against Soviet imperialism in the Far East. He told reporters aboard the White House yacht that aid would fit each situation and remain within U S resources. He warned China’s rulers could invite grave trouble for their people and violate the UN charter. He also said the U S stands ready to trade with China on fair terms but not to supply goods used against America. He criticized Russia for starving China and stripping Manchuria of capital, framing the threat as Soviet imperialism and colonialism in Asia.

Give-Away Potato Surplus Plan Hints At Farm Bill Action
Washington March 15 A broad give away and acreage adjustments plan aims to lift potato surplus and address inequities in cotton and peanut allotments for 1950. The Senate House conference committee approved the measure seeking quick passage. It would add about 1 25 million acres for cotton and raise peanut acreage by about 100 000 mainly in Alabama and Texas. Wheat adjustments were dropped for later separate legislation. The potato provision lets the agriculture secretary give away government bought surplus potatoes and pay delivery to qualifying institutions and organizations. Cotton rules set minimum allotments at 65 percent of the 1946 47 48 average and not below 45 percent of the 1946 47 48 plantings. A floor fight over the wheat amendment was anticipated.

Two Hurt In Car Truck Collision Near Twenty third
Two persons were injured in a car truck crash near Twenty third and Wan intersection around 5 p.m. yesterday. Sidney Gottesmann, Alpha Epsilon Pi member of 1247 Ohio, was taken to Watkins Memorial Hospital at KU. Clifford Cook, a truck rider, went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Both suffered minor cuts and bruises. The car was badly damaged. the two ton truck ended in a ditch. Driver Robert G. Mills of Leavenworth said the car veered across the road to enter a station, then turned back and struck the truck. Gottesmann could not recall the incident.

Three KU students killed in highway crash near Shawnee
Western Kansas university seniors and two freshmen died when a 1948 convertible plunged into a gasoline transport a half mile south of Shawnee on highway 10. Frank Lyle McCullough Jr, Janice Kollmann, and Joven Elaine Diller perished at the scene. James Ellison Childers and the other student were injured. The driver E H Burt was unhurt. The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce directors endorsed a $75,000 Sixth Street cutoff between Massachusetts and New Hampshire. It will go to voters in the April 4 city election.
