Diversions matter depends on case charges says Douglas DA
Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson describes diversions as case by case, noting yearly fluctuations depend on charged cases and diversion applications. In 2017 the office received 254 applications, granted 237 with 16 felonies, 144 misdemeanors, and 77 misdemeanor traffic diversions. 2016 saw 363 applications with 310 granted including 19 felonies and 156 traffic diversions. Branson argues diversions rarely affect jail population. rather they avoid conviction and may involve probation, treatment, or counseling and cost $100 to apply.
