Flagman killed by grader on Kansas Turnpike near Lawrence

James C. Raybern Jr. 39 of 1318 Maple Lane was fatally struck when a road grader backed over him while he assisted traffic at milepost 16.8, 15 miles east of Lawrence. The incident occurred as chat material drifted into the eastbound lane. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey Funeral Home with burial to follow. Raybern survived by his wife Patty and four children, plus his mother, brothers and nine sisters.

Fire runs total two on Monday with no damage. At 1:54 PM an automatic detector failed at North American Van Lines warehouse 808 Pa. Earlier at 12:15 PM a trash bin fire near Ninth and Massachusetts was extinguished.
