A conscious-stricken prisoner attempted suicide in Johnson County jail but was thwarted when he kicked another inmate’s bunk. The awakened prisoner freed Howard Glen Waggoner of Warsaw Missouri from a towel noose and Waggoner survived, now recovering. Waggoner and James P. Childress of Kansas City, both 18, pleaded guilty to a December 27 Merriam Kansas couple holdup, receiving 7 to 21 year sentences.
