German creditors press urgent demand for payment as cash shortages bite. Authorities issue swift directive to settle debts without delay. Financial strain prompts firms to mobilize collections and enforce payment terms amid turbulent markets.
German civilians in the occupied Rhine area will have all debts contracted by Americans settled by the Third Army. Commanders will obtain receipts from burgomasters showing debts cleared before troops depart. Travel into Coblenz is restricted to urgent business or return home as supply concerns rise and funds run dry.
In Topeka on March 7 the Senate as a committee of the whole moved for passage of three constitutional amendments farm tenantry good roads and tax classification. A resolution to empower six amendments at one session was returned to general orders. The House already approved resolutions on good roads tax classification and six amendments. The final Senate vote may be delayed by Senator Anspaugh’s absence. The Keene bill creating a state employment home for county prisoners passed. The House voted to appropriate 40000 to welcome Kansas soldiers home from overseas and to fund a reception committee in New York.
Governor Henry J. Allen told KU students yesterday that General Traub knew Y M C A and Red Cross workers were at the Vosges front and that infantry lacked artillery and air cover in the Argonne. He recalled meeting Lawrence boys there and criticized Traub's casualty figures while praising the workers and his tenancy plan.
Marines killed in action in France may have graves brought to the United States for burial. Exhumation will proceed so parents or friends can choose home-town burial. if not claimed, the deceased will be buried in a special Arlington National Cemetery section. The Marine Corps provides $100 for funeral expenses. Casualties cited from the Fifth and Sixth regiments.
Lawrence post office money orders in February far surpassed the prior year with about 321000 dollars in cash handled versus 25600 last February. January also showed a similar rise with 30000 this year against 23000 last year. Nearly 31000 was paid out in February, about double the amount issued.
P. C. Young 68, Wilson County attorney, died after a stroke in Fredonia Kansas. He served as a state representative in 1904 1905 and was KU law graduate. He taught at Fort Scott Mound City Independence and Elk City.
An explosion at the Riverside Western Gasoline Company's plant seven miles southeast of Nowata Oklahoma destroyed the facility. Eleven gas industry units reported the blast. Three men suffered serious burns in the incident.

Marie Wavren a Russian graduate of the University of Switzerland and studied at Brussels will give a lecture in Fraser hall chapel March 20. Miss Tavreyv lectures in the United States to provide a better understanding of Russia and the talk will be open to the public.
