Teens queue to beat new driving age law at license bureau

About 95 youths mostly 14 year olds packed the National Guard Armory Tuesday morning to obtain restricted licenses before the age increase. Shana Bell 15 of Lawrence waited hours for notarized birth documents and finally received her license at 1 20 PM amid relief and complaints. Her father complained the process ties up many hours for few people, noting the system leaves them with no choice but to wait. The restricted license allows farm or supervised driving to work or school in certain cases. farm permits remain available for 14 year olds.
