President Clinton defended the U S missile strike on Baghdad as warranted and effective, saying it crippled Iraqi intelligence capacity and sent a global message of American resolve to fight terrorism. AP reports the USA Today CNN Gallup poll shows two thirds of Americans approve of the missile strike on Iraq while 54 percent think it will raise U S terrorism risk. Fifty three percent back killing Saddam Hussein. 23 percent disapprove and 13 percent say it will curb terrorism with 26 percent seeing no impact.
Kansas University political scientist Thomas Heilke says the Saturday night attack ending with 16 of 23 Tomahawk missiles striking the Iraqi Intelligence Service compound in Baghdad sent a message that President Clinton will use force.
