Prof Shafer's Entertainment at Congregational Church

The North Lawrence Congregational church hosted a well attended benefit program for the Sunday school directed by Professor Bhaler. Pupils under his instruction performed choral, instrumental, recitations, and readings, followed by notices of local events and a death in New Mexico.

Kansas Republican Convention Concludes Nominating Three for Congress

The Kansas convention adjourned after a long session nominating Peters on the second ballot and Merrill Hanback and B. W. Perkins on the third. Delegates debated rules limiting speeches and voting four candidates on the first ballot. Merrill from Hiawatha, Hanback of Linn, and Perkins from Oswego drew praise as the chosen nominees.

Terrible Train Crash Near Little Silver Bridge

An express train on the Central New Jersey line derailed across a bridge over the Shrewsbury River near Little Silver. Six cars left the rails, four passenger coaches and a parlor car fell into about four feet of water. One man from Ocean Beach died. many were injured, with several named patients including Dewwrest, Grant, Garrison, Woodruff, Atitehall, Foster, Hurtson, Edison, Brooks, Brown, Fox, and Malorey. Grant escaped unhurt. rescue and medical aid were immediate.
