Winn Defiance Over Tuition Bill Prompts House Hearing Standoff
After the panel ruled, Winn refused to apologize. Her attorney urged the nine complainants to apologize. The six-member committee, split 3 Republicans and 3 Democrats, did not discipline Winn as the session ended. Supporters filled the hearing room as Rep Erin Davis warned them to remain quiet and barred Irigonegaray from speaking. Rep Ron Highland and Rep Tony Barton testified about offense at Winn’s remarks and potential consequences for future behavior. Winn argued she was exercising free speech against a tuition bill she says targets undocumented students.
