St John’s Fiesta keeps tradition at 35th annual event
The 35th St John’s Mexican Fiesta opened at St John the Evangelist Church in Lawrence with enchiladas confetti eggs and a mariachi band. Chairman Frank Lemus said minor tweaks preserved the festival begun in 1981 celebrating Mexican American heritage through faith music and community. Proceeds aid the school Spanish language program and a Hispanic youth scholarship fund.
