Estes Trial Postponement Sought Over Fair Trial Claims

Billie Sol Estes received a postponement of his Reeves County felony theft trial on charges of defrauding a local farmer of 162144 dollars. Judge J H Starley considered moving the venue as juror pre exposure allegedly prejudiced Estes. The defense asked two or three terms of court or a venue change to assure a fair trial.

Sparks backs foreign aid at Kansas University speech

Ernest Klooz, a 26 year Douglas County Court house veteran, will retire July 1. He has served as clerk staff and overseer of appraisals since 1946, and led county foreclosures earlier in his career. Third Quarter Horse Contest Opens Entries Due July 15

The Bowersock Mills and Power Co sponsors the final phase of the horse contest in the Journal-World. Four-H Club members may enter by submitting nine sketches and listing all faults of entries to 546 Mass. St. by July 15. A quarter-horse filly is the prize to be awarded August 11 at the Quarter Horse Show at the 4-H Fairgrounds.

Four Killed in Arkansas Plane Crash Near Cherry Valley

A Joplin Missouri family of four died Tuesday when their small plane crashed in rugged wooded terrain near Cherry Valley Arkansas. The victims are Harold J Mink 28 his wife and two children Debbie 7 and Mark G Mink works as a service station operator.

Explosion of Thor Injures Two Workmen

The Defense Department reports two Johnston Island workers suffered minor scratches when debris from a Thor booster rocket exploded after a malfunction. Debris fell on Johnston and Sand Islands and into the sea. Names of the workers were not released.

Chaplin and Wife Expecting 10th Child

Charlie Chaplin said the approaching birth of his 10th child does not worry him as much as past arrivals. The 72 year old comedian, arriving from Geneva to Oxford to receive an honorary doctorate, will return to join wife Oona in Switzerland as she nears the delivery.
