A St. Joseph fireman George Pohel died after grabbing a 2 1/2 year old child from an oncoming freight near Powell Nebraska. The brakes were applied but too late and Pohel’s foot was crushed. The child escaped unharmed.
Newburyport Juda, 27. Secretary Hay had a restful night and is reported very comfortable this morning. It is not believed that he will be about as soon as anticipated. The arrival of a nurse and physician from Boston suggests careful nursing and medical attention in the coming days. The family does not fear danger from his illness.

A Santa Fe freight train arriving in Topeka on June 21 found a severed head identified as Herbert Kent, son of Tomay Kent of Nortonville Kansas. The body was later found on the road bed near Norton side. Kent was likely walking along the track when struck by the train.
