Storms push wheat farmers out of fields in rainfall varying
Farmers report storms delaying field work as rainfall patterns differ across counties. Melvin Lang of Farmers Co op elevator notes proximity to Kansas City terminals reduces trucking costs despite a railroad strike affecting smaller elevators. Wheat quality in the north elevator is fair with high moisture but test weights near 60 pounds per bushel. Mike Murray of Midland Elevator says a few loads arrived before rain, quality was good and moisture under 14 percent, but overall crop likely to disappoint due to freeze damage.
