Topeka Man Killed In Highway Burglary Foiled by Darkness
Three Topeka men admitted a string of Lawrence burglaries last night as an attempted burglary of a parked car six miles west of Lawrence turned deadly. Paul Eugene Denning, 18, of Topeka, died from a .38 caliber wound. Russell Viers and Jimmie Johnson, both 16, were questioned and jailed for murder and grand larceny as investigators seek the unknown white male driver of a 1948 green sedan. Parafin tests were taken. autopsy confirmed the neck wound. The pair described a late Tuesday night plan to steal the car after buying beer and bread.
