Man Found Shot to Death Beside Highway Near Ellis
A young unidentified laborer, about 20, was found shot five times in a ditch along U S Highway 40, two and a half miles east of Ellis. Farmer Bob Nierenberger discovered the body at about 9:30 a.m. A 1953 class ring bearing the initials B H offered a possible clue to the victim's identity. He stood 5 feet 10 inches, weighed 165 pounds, with blue eyes and blond hair.

Pratt Fugitive Apprehended By Local Officers
A Pratt man suspected in an attempted kidnaping of a 15 year old Pratt schoolgirl was captured near Lawrence by Pratt County deputies and state troopers after a dawn chase. John Hembree, 23, admitted drinking, jailed to await Pratt County custody, with Mounts named as accomplice in the incident that began Saturday night when two men accosted the girl and Pilkington during a ride.
