Prohibition arrests in Pittsburg open hearing next day

Eight parties have been arrested for violating the prohibition law at Pittsburg Crawford county and their hearing begins here tomorrow. One hundred witnesses have been subpoenaed. A trial is in progress against seven parties for resistance to officers in whisky cases. So many men have been taken from Laynan & Co zinc works by subpoena that the owner fears unable to keep furnaces firing and expects damage.

Burned United States steamer Rogers wreck near St Lawrence Bay

Telegraph reports detail the burning of the U S exploring steamer Rogers at St Lawrence Bay in Siberia, crew rescue by Thomas Corwin from Sitka, and shift to native villages. Warring and Story led survivors, supplies and pemmican saved, North Star later rescued, natives aided, and Corwin reached Sitka with full crew by June. Also weather and Kansas floods noted.

Republican convention nominates Brosius for congressman at large

In Pennsylvania Hanassere June 21 the Republican caucus in the state library room elected Coronel J. Taggart as president. A resolution to harmonize the party and fill vacancies was adopted and the convention adjourned after nominating Brosius of Lancaster as congressman at large by a unanimous ballot.

Phillips & Bro. window glass factory on 19th Street South Side Pittston Pa. was totally destroyed by fire this morning. Loss estimated at 10,000 with 6,400 covered by insurance. Fire attributed to the cupola falling in.
