Phil Thorpe 77 of North Seventh Street suffered a leg injury when struck by a car driven by John D Mahaffey of Kansas City Missouri near the corner of Sheath and Lyons early today. Mahaffey said he watched a telephone patch being erected and did not see Thorpe until too late. He swerved and struck him with the Fender at under twenty miles per hour. Thorpe taken to Mee 3 hospital by ambulance. Mahaffey released with a warning. He is a gardener in North Lawrence and manager of a piano company in Kansas City.
St Louis reports Colonel Charles A Lindbergh read through mail received since his sensational flight and considered several attractive business offers while resting. The note indicates he planned to browse stacks of letters and evaluate opportunities.
The Joplin Mo case reports that Linwell Boswell, once a Kansas life sentence for the Laster murder, now denies his confession and claims innocence. Records show Boswell was employed locally in Sterling 1926 and disappeared until contact from Joplin authorities.
