Sheriff Named In Oil Lawsuit
Sedgwick County Sheriff Vern Miller is named in a $527 000 suit by five Topeka men alleging improper service of a summons in a case against Wichita oilman James Hershberger. The plaintiffs say a deputy left the summons with Hershberger's secretary, causing a judge to dismiss a prior $317 000 claim for misrepresented oil and gas rights in West Virginia. The new suit also names Western Surety Co. as a defendant.
