Floods threaten Kansas City air terminal as Missouri and Kansas rivers crest flood level. Levees topple and dikes crumble forcing partial evacuation while guardsmen and volunteers rush to shore up dikes and aid stranded travelers.
Postmaster Roger M Williams urged lighter letters and lighter stationery to ease the growing air mail load. A Kansas City post office May report showed air mail total at 190,634 pounds, up from 106,651 pounds in May 1942, an 78.7 percent increase.
Commander Ivan C Rowe of the Dorsey Liberty post calls off the post meeting planned for this evening. Sergeants will remain on duty to manage the flood emergency.
London reports a planned summer offensive against Soviet Russia was postponed due to front line shortages of food, fuel, and munitions. The limited attack around the Orel salient was debated by German leaders including Von Bock and Warliomont, with resignations and strategic shifts noted. A Paris radio broadcast predicted a Red army drive within weeks and Berlin chatter cited massing around Kursk.

Kansas Supreme Court today set Fred L. In Salina two rear wheels and tires from Hubert Parsons’s truck at the Highth Street hotel sparked a theft investigation. A man who had stolen a truck in Ohio and abandoned it later stole another truck, leading to his arrest by the Kansas State Highway Patrol at Wamego. The truck tied to the Kansas City line was traced through Denver to Salina where Parsons’s tires were found on it. The suspect was jailed in Topeka after police traced the sequence of thefts and replacements.
The War Food Administration announced that loans on 1942 corn averaging 73 to 89 cents per bushel on 47,000,000 bushels are called in effective July 15. Farmers with loans from last year must pay off or deliver the corn, with the government ready to requisition storage elevators to keep war production uninterrupted.
The average of 60 stocks stood at 50.6, up from 50.5 the previous day. Investors tracked fluctuations in the market as key shares shifted.

Pilot Harold Emick and Undersheriff Elmer Schiller conducted two morning flights to survey river flood conditions near Weaver Bottoms and beyond Lecompton. They reported widespread water, a farm marooned on high ground, and washed Santa Fe tracks with many fields holding rain ponds.
Jess Wright, a farmer near Lawrence, asked the Chamber of Commerce for a row boat and an experienced rower to reach his home three miles east and a mile and a half south of Lawrence. He left his flooded farm yesterday after relocating livestock and planned to rescue about 350 chickens and chicks trapped in hayloft, upper floors, and crates.
The Kaw river flood from Wamego to the river mouth is expected to crest at Topeka today with a slow recession underway. Rain ended, temperatures near 83 in Topeka, Wichita, and Geneseo, with upper reaches still overflowing and dikes patrolled by police and air wardens.
A six man jury in a district court room yesterday awarded Seiler one dollar on Ball versus Seiler. Ball sought 180 dollars claiming a sixty dollar overcharge on Vermont Street living quarters under OPA rent rules. The court upheld a demurrer and Ball’s action was dismissed. Seiler’s cross petition sought sixty dollars for vacating without proper notice. Jury included Fox, Mason, Graeber, Holloway, Tella and Neider.
Okmulgee Oklahoma June 17 union laborers began returning to work at the general hospital project after the war production board ordered the end of picket lines. About 90 workers had been idle since Monday when the International Hod Carriers Building Workers and Common Laborers Union AFL declared the job unfair.
Manuel Gonzalez spokesman for the Puerto Rican Farmers association attacked Gov. Rexford Tugwell at a hearing of the Bell Congressional committee. He warned Tugwell aims to extend a 500 acre ownership cap to individuals and corporations and uses Puerto Rico as a testing ground for land and sugar mill regulation and minimum wage laws to be exported to the mainland.
Red Cross canteen volunteers led by Miss Hermina Zinple served hot meals as 12 members cooked at the Community building kitchen. Sgt. William Kolender supervised distribution while Salvation Army crews provided 500 sandwiches and 20 gallons of coffee north of the river. Navy trainees at K U also helped supply food to personnel on flood sectors.
The Chamber of Commerce served as the flood emergency hub with Ship Winter and George Hedrick on duty through the night. Volunteers, including 35 KU students, were mobilized to aid in relief efforts while Civilian Defense and OCD units coordinated preparedness and evacuation plans.
The city of Eudora received judgment for 230 dollars plus costs after its suit against E. A. Erikson trailer camp operator. Erikson was found in violation of the city's trailer ordinance by failing to register with the city clerk or pay 50 cents per trailer per month. An injunction was issued forbidding operation of the camp until compliance is achieved.

Flood waters along the Kaw river near 23.2 feet crest threaten earthen levees and sandbag embankments as hundreds patrol and repair breaches. Wakarusa in Duttons Bridge reached 29 feet while areas around Eudora and Weaver Bottoms remained inundated with farms and roads submerged. Train service across the region was disrupted with Santa Fe and Union Pacific lines using alternate tracks. Local residents reported yards flooded and 700 acres of farmland underwater.
