Longtime seniors dance group keeps community beat
Since 1981 Leo Shaw and OURS sponsor dances for retirees. The group, once housed at the Lawrence Senior Center, then faced venue shutdowns at the Eagles lodge and Knights of Columbus before settling in at another location. About 90 members gathered last week.

FSHS and LHS to install 4.57M turf at football fields
Crews at Free State High School and possibly Lawrence High School are stripping an aging synthetic surface to lay new turf. The project, valued at 4.57 million dollars, will replace the nearly ten year old field surfaces in coming weeks after workers removed the old material to expose gravel underneath.

Teenager Convicted in Eudora Gun Shop Burglary
Stevan Rios of Eudora pleaded guilty and was convicted in Douglas County District Court on one count of burglary and one count of theft of a firearm. He was the only juvenile charged as an adult in the recent gun shop burglary.

Lawrence mural plan advances after cultural arts commendation
The Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission unanimously recommended a mural for the Lawrence Public Library exterior. The project, led by Women of Color, will feature stories of local women of color as 17 girls and women of color contribute to the design, with community members voicing strong support.
