Regulators urged to reject Westar rate hike in Kansas

Kansas regulators and CURB urge the commission to deny Westar Energy’s 17.2 million rate increase and instead cut rates by 69 to 125 million for Kansas customers. CURB says evidence supports lower rates for all Westar customers including Lawrence. Westar serves about 700,000 in the state. The filing also notes a two phase plan starting with a 1.6 million cut in September tied to tax law changes and the Great Plains Energy merger.
