Youth in Jail After West Lawrence Robbery Escapes
A 17 year old hitchhiking youth who robbed a Kansas City salesman near Lawrence last Thursday was captured near Oskaloosa Saturday. Clarence Richard Crosswhite admitted hijacking a Ford coach from Howard W. Fritz and later stole a 1941 Pontiac in Wichita. He journeyed to Kansas City and Topeka before abandonment of the Pontiac and car theft charges. Sheriff authorities recovered a .38 revolver used in the hold up. Crosswhite, of Wichita, is held in the Douglas county jail awaiting first degree robbery charges.

Youth Drowns in Wakarusa River At Brown's Grove
Bobby Dewaine Haas aged 12 drowned while fishing with his family along the Wakarusa River near Brown's Grove southwest of Lawrence. The high water and slippery banks contributed to the accident with the father nearly drowning as well. Rescue efforts located the body about seven feet deep downstream at 5:30 p m. a boat from Richard Higgins of North Lawrence aided the search. Survivors include the Haas parents and seven brothers and a sister. Funeral arrangements to be announced.
