Kansas Wheat Marketing Pool Reorganizes for Season
Wichita June 14 The Kansas wheat marketing pool continues despite failing to sign 44 million bushels. A merger unites the Kansas Cooperative Wheat Marketing Association, Kansas Farmers Union Wheat Marketing Association, and Kansas Wheat Growers Association. The growers say the project will be run by the Wheat Growers Association to handle members’ wheat at lowest cost and sell at best price. The merged groups expect to handle more wheat than any farm organization in U.S. history. George B. Cutting of the Kansas Wheat Growers urges signed contractors to stay, notes some signatories may withdraw, but most have already signed about 30 million bushels. Agents still seek contracts as the 5-year pooling plan moves forward. The Wheat Growers Journal, now restored, predicts a sharp fight this season between the cooperative and the organized grain trade.
