Rain Wipeouts End NL Homer Charge On Opening Day
Rain ruined a potential single day homer record as the National League hit several long balls but two games were washed out. Wally Post and Andy Seminick homered before rain stopped the Reds Phillies twin bill. Brooklyn Cubs and Dodgers split with multiple homers, while Giants Cardinals and Pirates Braves also produced power. American League featured nine homers, with Billy Pierce Bob Porterfield duel and Bob Nieman grand slam lifting the White Sox. Early Wynn, Hal Smith, and others homered for Cleveland and Baltimore.

State fishing spots aided by showers not restocked yet
PRATT Kas Many Kansas farm ponds and lakes benefit from May and June rains and may be good fishing spots now but restocking will wait until fall. Hatchery Supt Seth Wray says the commission is swamped with requests and must rely on this summer’s hatch. New state waters will get priority and supplies may be spread thin. He urges patience as weather delays spawning of catfish and affects crappie bass and bluegill production.
